Helping others to move their business forward

Lynne Gregory, 147 Snooker Club

When Lynne Gregory purchased the 147 Snooker Club in Gosport in 2008, she used the services of local business solicitors Graeme Quar & Co to secure the purchase.

Three years later, the specialist law firm was called in again to help with the sale of the business, transformed in that time from a loss making operation to a thriving going concern by Lynne and husband David Lowman.

Lynne’s praises the Graeme Quar & Co experience. “Everything ran so smoothly from our solicitors’ side” she enthused. “I have been using Graeme and his team for over 13 years and have had truly excellent service every single time.”

Lester Eyres, Ktees Clothing Limited
With over 30 years of trading history, Ktees Clothing had an established clientele but outdated equipment and operations and was in need of TLC. New owner Lester Keyes bought the Fareham based company to effect a full programme of modernisation and expansion, with the help of Graeme Quar & Co.

“Graeme was a recommendation to us and we are very glad we looked into working with him. He’s direct, accessible, hands-on, thorough and helped us through the potential minefield of buying the business, negotiating premises lease and the rest of the legal paperwork. We could have come a cropper several times without his attention to detail and options he provided at each stage of the process. But we are open for business and can’t recommend him highly enough.”

Paul Evans, HGP Architects
With over 60 staff and offices in London and Fareham, HGP is a substantial architectural practice operating throughout the UK and Europe. The firm’s rapidly expanding portfolio includes retail, leisure, residential, conservation, education, marina, master-planning and urban renewal projects.

“We’ve known Graeme Quar since he started out by himself – he had his first office in one of our properties. In 2008, we completed what was essentially a management buy-out; it was a complicated deal involving two or three interrelated companies and a tight deadline. Graeme Quar was the first person we contacted, as we’ve worked with him for over 12 years and he’s always been excellent.”

Ian Voller, Vollers The Corset Company Limited
Established by Ian’s great-grandfather in 1899, Vollers is the only surviving member of an industry that once employed over 9,000 people in the Portsmouth area. Today, the company makes a range of corsets in modern fabrics, based on the original designs.

“We went to litigation against some former employees who’d taken my great-grandfather’s designs and tried to set up on their own. We knew Graeme Quar & Co were specialists in business law who had worked on other legal matters for us and always got things done quickly. They recommended that a search-and-seize order was the way to go; although it’s very difficult to do, they managed to obtain one in the London High Court with his Court specialist Richard Barnett. This was a delicate and very emotional case. Graeme Quar & Co really suited our needs.”

Andrew Lamburne, Rank Developments Ltd
Rank Developments Ltd is a commercial property developer based in Hampshire. The company specialises in high-specification new-build industrial units for freehold sale or rental.

“We went to Graeme Quar & Co a few years ago and we’ve been working with them ever since. Graeme has helped us with purchasing land dealing the banks and solicitors involved, sales of units, drawing up tenancy agreements and sorting out problems with tenants, and providing general advice along the way. We like the fact that it’s a personal service and we’re talking directly to him; in a big legal practice you can easily get lost in the establishment.”
