Two highly-regarded law firms in Hampshire have joined forces to create a full-service offering for individuals and businesses across the South.

Commercial specialist Graeme Quar & Co officially comes under the Biscoes Law banner from April 4th, with a combined staff of 100, including 28 fee-earners.

The strategic merger will see five staff at Graeme Quar & Co relocate from an office at Furzehall Farm, Wickham Road, Fareham, to Biscoes Law’s main office at Kingston Place, Kingston Crescent, Portsmouth.

Biscoes Law, which traces its roots back 162 years and is led by managing director Alison Lee, has five other offices in Gosport, Portchester, Wickham, Waterlooville and Petersfield.

Graeme Quar & Co was founded by managing director Graeme Quar 22 years ago, with a team of solicitors working exclusively in commercial law.

Its area of legal expertise includes property transactions, company law, buying and selling businesses, employment law, business disputes, planning law, corporate taxation and insolvency.

Biscoes’ services include personal injury, family, accident claims, immigration, military law, wills, trust, probate, mediation and debt recovery.

Alison said: “Biscoes Law and Graeme Quar & Co have joined forces, under the long-established Biscoes Law name, to create a full-service offering which will provide our clients with incomparable legal advice in a competitive market.

“Graeme and his colleagues, who work tirelessly for small to medium-sized businesses across a wide range of sectors in the South, are highly regarded and bring commercial law firepower to us here at Biscoes Law.

“By the same token, Graeme will be able to point clients in our direction for the services we excel in.

“Both firms are financially strong and we look forward to a great future.”

Graeme said: “The merger makes for a strong strategic fit, with complementary skill sets, services and geographical reach, underpinned by exemplary customer service.

“My colleagues and I are excited about the next chapter, being part of a forward-looking legal practice which is ambitious to grow through excellence, innovation and the delivery of real-life solutions for real-life issues.”

Biscoes Law is a member of a number of professional associations, including the Law Society, Hampshire Law Society, Notary Services, the Charity Law Association, Portsmouth Property Association and Hampshire Chamber of Commerce

The practice is also part of LawNet, the UK and Ireland’s leading network of independent law firms promoting excellence and providing a range of benefits for members.

Furthermore, Biscoes Law has the Law Society’s legal practice quality mark, Lexcel, for excellence in legal practice management and client care, and is accredited with the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme.

The firm is also working towards ISO 9001 accreditation in November for its quality management systems.

Biscoes Law is among 900 or so practising notaries in England and Wales – duties include authenticating legal documents for use abroad, including for people intending to marry or work overseas.

The firm has led on a number of mergers over recent years as part of its ‘your local lawyers’ ethos.

Graeme Quar & Co is delighted to announce the appointment of Lesley Goosen, who joins the team as Graeme’s new PA.

Born in Wales, Lesley moved to Zimbabwe and South Africa with her family, and carved a career as a legal PA in a career spanning 30 years.

She returned to the UK around eight years ago with her husband and three children, and earlier this month joined the team at Graeme Quar & Co.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I arrived — there were balloons, chocolates and a welcome card. That’s never happened before when I’ve joined a firm!

“I’m really excited about being Graeme’s PA and all the new challenges it will bring.”

Graeme’s former PA, Ann Ricketts, who had worked for him directly since he began the firm in Fareham 21 years ago, remains with the business handing over to Lesley and taking on broader secretarial duties.

Graeme said: “We are delighted to welcome Lesley to the business, and I’m sure Ann is relieved to finally be rid of me after 21 years. We’re very excited to moving forward as a new team.”

Michael Dalton, 1952-2015

October 5th, 2015

Michael Dalton   It is with great sadness that we record the passing of Michael Dalton, our consultant in Petersfield from 2012 until serious illness forced him to cease to practise as a lawyer this summer.

Michael qualified as a solicitor in 1981, and founded his own firm, Daltons, in 1986, working from offices on Hayling Island before moving his practice to Petersfield.

Michael’s clients valued his advice on commercial and business matters and particularly on commercial property. Michael was heavily involved in the local business community for many years, including a term as President of the South East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

We know that Michael will be sadly missed by his his clients and the Petersfield business community.  Our thoughts are with his family.

From this day forward

July 16th, 2015

We are delighted to announce the publication of a new e-book, commissioned by Graeme Quar & Co to coincide with our 21st anniversary and published as we reach the half-way point within our milestone year.

ftdf

From This Day Forward focusses on businesses based along the Solent corridor, and seeks to answer questions such as:

  • How much of an appetite have independent companies really got to grow their business?
  • What difficult issues are companies forced to face and address in order to fully realise their potential?
  • What key things do successful companies do to set them apart from their competitors?

The 55-page e-book book, published in association with Decision Magazine, is an insight into the business practices of some of the most successful firms in the southern region, and we hope you will find it an interesting read.

Many of these businesses are, like Graeme Quar & Co, gazelle firms — companies characterised by rapid growth in revenue of at least 20 per cent over four consecutive years — so have a unique insight into how to succeed in business.

We hope you will find the book an interesting read.

crossing the line2

On Saturday and Sunday, Gabor participated in the Thames Path Challenge.  Starting in Putney at 8.40 am on Saturday, he walked 100 kilometres along the Thames Path, finishing in Henley at 11.52 am on Sunday.  He says that he has the blisters to prove it!

So far, Gabor has raised more than £1,200 in donations for the Stroke Association.  Many thanks to all who supported Gabor, including staff and clients of Graeme Quar & Co.

In the photograph above, Gabor and his intrepid walking buddy Ozlem Mehmet are approaching the finish line.

If you would like to make a donation, you may still do so on Gabor’s justgiving page.
